Although the calculation is a somewhat rudimentary one, Giles shared interactions with somewhere in the region of 18,000 employees in his capacity as a consultant to luxury hotels. As you might imagine (and hope), amongst those were some stars, some wonderful waiters, perfect porters, colourful concierge, marvellous masseurs, charming chauffeurs and sensational sommeliers. There’s one brilliant butler however, who stood above the rest and years later, still resonates as the best of all. Christopher Penshee was a butler at the Raffles Hotel Seychelles in Praslin and made a beautiful hotel into a truly memorable experience. His traits and behaviours embody all that, in Giles’s experience are present with all great employees and form the basis of the Penshee Principle – Care, Pride, Empathy, Individuality and Humility.
